Ah-Nab-Awen Park
Venue description
Ah-Nab-Awen Park is a long, narrow green space that runs along the west side of the Grand River. This park is adjacent to the Gerald R. Ford Museum and visible from the DeVos Convention Center (across the river). It is accessible by a pedestrian bridge that runs across the river as well as on-site parking. Another area of the park (not available for use for Artprize) houses three large, grassy mounds which were built in 1976 to symbolize Hopewell Indian burial mounds, which are native to the area. The park offers ample green space and a fantastic view of the Grand Rapids skyline.
Venue statement
This is one of three public spaces being curated by Melissa Matuscak, Director/Curator of the DeVos Art Museum at Northern Michigan University. The other two venues are Fish Ladder Park and the Kent County Courthouse (outdoors). Site-specific proposals are welcomed; artists are encouraged to consider the history, symbolism and “use value” of the site. Artists can also propose multiple works to be sited at all three venues being curated by Matuscak, creating a theme or dialogue between all three sites. Traditional sculpture, social sculpture, experiential pieces and conceptual work will be equally considered.

Floor Plan(s)
Floor plan notes:
Park hours are generally dawn to dusk unless otherwise indicated The park is totally irrigated. The irrigation typically runs throughout the evening and cannot be shut off for more than a couple of days without damaging the turf. The property line between the park and the Ford Museum is roughly the walkway at the west portion of the park
