After a one year hiatus, Boardwalk returns as an ArtPrize venue for 2017. Recognized as an outstanding venue in 2013, we once again welcome artists and art lovers alike to our historic venue. A century old former furniture factory, today Boardwalk is home to a vibrant Monroe North District residential and commercial community. Our 26 exhibiting artists each present an ArtPrize entry in keeping with our theme of "Time and Transformation".
Gillett Bridge is not available as a venue during the connections process. Gillett Bridge is a pedestrian walkway that spans the Grand River in Downtown Grand Rapids. The bridge connects the two landmarks, the Gerald R. Ford Museum and DeVos Place. It is heavily travelled during ArtPrize and offers wonderful views of the river and city.
Beer City Barre is a boutique Barre fitness studio. We offer full body fitness classes using the Ballet Barre as a 'prop' Our classes are a combination of Yoga/Pilates & Dance infused with fun, fast paced, loud music. The studio has a very modern chic feel with exposed original brick, and wood beams at the ceiling. The fitness studio has a lot of blank wall space perfect to display artwork, and we also have a large lobby in the front that could accommodate a piece as well. LE&A has a long tradition of bringing art together with the public. The agency led the public relations and marketing outreach for the all-new Grand Rapids Art Museum, exhibitions at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park and it leads the What’s Your Art campaign on behalf of the Arts Council of Greater Grand Rapids. Members of the LE&A team have represented some of the leading public art projects in the Midwest, including the internationally renowned Millennium Park: Chicago and Tom Otterness in Grand Rapids. In 2006, LE&A hosted the first Kendall College Scholarship Commission, which gave scholarships to two students and placed their original pieces of artwork into the agency’s permanent collection. At its headquarters, one block away from Grand Rapids’ Avenue for the Arts District, LE&A hosted Salt & Earth by Young Kim, the 2009 ArtPrize Curators Choice award winner and 2010 top 10 finalist.

The B.O.B. (an acronym for Big Old Building) is located in downtown Grand Rapids. The 70,000-square-foot, four- story, red brick building was constructed in 1903 as Judson's grocery warehouse. It stood vacant for decades before The Gilmore Collection began its transformation, saving it from demolition. (UN)DOCUMENTED / (IN)DOCUMENTADO This year, Rumsey Street returns as a community driven venue focused on honoring and documenting narratives that are crucial to the fabric of the neighborhood as it currently exists, working to maintain the cultural and historic elements of a community during major change. Artists show work in three buildings, slated for complete removal by the end of 2017 — an auto garage, a former church, and the church’s rectory — to present works that explore the complex narratives of pain, joy, and fear of a community in transition. The Cultura Collective returns to invite viewers to consider these perspectives, histories, and narratives and their varied forms of documentation in the midst of significant development and growth. UNDOCUMENTED / INDOCUMENTADO seeks to highlight the mostly untold stories of people directly affected by this growth, and to honor and maintain elements — both cultural and historic — of this community during major change.

The Waters Building is a downtown Grand Rapids landmark that occupies the entire length of the block between Pearl and Lyon Streets on Ottawa Avenue. It is home to The Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, West Michigan Community Bank, Paul Goebel Group, Grand Rapids Bar Association and numerous other prestigious firms. It overlooks Rosa Parks Circle and the Grand Rapids Art Museum. It was constructed in 1898, as a furniture exposition building when Grand Rapids served as the nation's center for residential furniture manufacturing. Welcome! We are thrilled to be an ArtPrize venue for the first time! ArtPrize is the largest art competition in the world, and we are proud that it is right in our backyard here in Grand Rapids. Our venue sees 7-8,000 visitors a day just in passenger traffic, and we hope to see familiar faces stopping, but also the daily flow of people in and out of GRR who may be here on business or visiting loved ones. Our venue is hosting seven artists who are from as close as Ada, to as far away as Mexico and New Zealand! Art is located in three locations: outdoors under our "Welcome Wall" canopy, in the east end of our terminal building near the Valet Parking ticket counter, and upstairs in our Observation Area. This is also a great spot for aviation enthusiasts since you can view art, look down on our security checkpoint, and get a view of our airfield operations. The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts builds creative community by fostering new forms of expression, promoting collaboration, and providing genuine experiences with contemporary art. UICA features exhibitions of work by regional, national, and international artists throughout the year. One Trick Pony Grill & Taproom is housed in the oldest Commercial Building in Grand Rapids. It is the venue of choice for local musicians who play there every Thursday night, and some Saturdays. Picture this: Enjoy Artprize even more by parking on the WestSide and walking along Bridge Street to downtown. There is a GR parking lot by the fire house, a parking lot next to Swift (404 Bridge) for $5 and side street parking. Stop in Denym to shop and why not have a brew at The Sovengard. Then mosey your way east towards the river. On your right, view the amazing work from the best artists in the world at Swift Printing (404 Bridge Street.) Continue your journey around downtown and on your way back, hit up Fratellis' for a slice of pizza or have a nice dinner at Sovengard or Butchers Union. ArtPrize 10 could quite possibly be your favorite Artprize.
Moosejaw Mountaineering is an outdoor retailer, headquartered in the Detroit area. We sell outdoor gear and apparel. Our Grand Rapids shop is our newest, and is located directly across from The Downtown Market. It is by far the wildest, weirdest shop yet. We love to host fun games and events, drink lots of beer, adopt puppies, and do much much more. Being an Art Prize venue is our most exciting adventure yet! Our 3 spacious windows allow engaging 2D photography and/or paintings to be showcased inside beautifully. Outside viewing only is available for visitors.
The Meijer-Royce Center for Dance is available as an outdoor ArtPrize venue only.

Ah-Nab-Awen Park is not available as a venue during the connections process. Ah-Nab-Awen Park is a long, narrow green space that runs along the west side of the Grand River. This park is adjacent to the Gerald R. Ford Museum and visible from the DeVos Convention Center (across the river). It is accessible by a pedestrian bridge that runs across the river as well as on-site parking. Another area of the park (not available for use for Artprize) houses three large, grassy mounds which were built in 1976 to symbolize Hopewell Indian burial mounds, which are native to the area. The park offers ample green space and a fantastic view of the Grand Rapids skyline.

The Bagel Beanery is a independently locally owned and operated gourmet coffee and sandwich shop. Our bagels are made fresh from scratch daily and our coffee is roasted 24 hours prior to delivery. The Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center opened in 2004. It has become a leader in heart care in the region, state and nation and remains the only hospital in Grand Rapids that provides open heart surgery. The Meijer Heart Center is equipped with state-of-the-art medical and information technology. We also have great clinical teams in caring for all aspects of the heart, including heart rhythms and blood vessels.

VandenBerg Plaza is not available as a venue during the connections process. The VandenBerg Plaza, commonly referred to as the Calder Plaza because of the presence of Alexander Calder's La Grande Vitesse, a stabile created for the people of Grand Rapids. The plaza is a large open area that serves as the campus for city, county, and federal government buildings.
We are centrally located downtown on Fulton, just east of Division, next to Veteran's Park and St. Cecilia's. We are a large and beautiful historic church! You may enter the church through our glass vestibule (the cube) right off our parking lot (sorry - no public parking). Art is displayed in our lobby and gathering area, gallery hallway, and our main hall, Merriam Hall. NOTE: We do not have public parking or offer tours of our building. Thank you!

For 43 years, First United Methodist Church has presented its annual "Celebration of the Arts", one of the largest juried spiritual art shows in the U.S. Works have included artists from many faith and spiritual traditions.
The Grand Rapids Community College Paul Collins Art Gallery is dedicated to providing diverse, high-quality exhibitions for the education and inspiration of the college and the community. Exhibits by visiting artists, faculty, and students offer diverse talents from local, regional, national, and international domains. In addition to the exhibitions, selected lectures by artists or curators are offered at the gallery. All of the gallery exhibits and events are free and open to the public.
