Eric Millikin, Firth MacMillan, Barbara Lash, Denise Ardis, John Whipple, Lynn Whipple, Ed Brownlee, Jonathan D. Lopez, Howard Sheltraw and Sierra Cole were all chosen to show at a new venue located in city center during ArtPrize 9. The ten artists will be showing in small Post Office Boxes that make up this official venue located inside the United States Postal Service - Ledyard Station, 120 Monroe Center NW. PO (Art)Box is specializing in small artwork since scale is often a majority factor in ArtPrize entries. Curator Sierra Cole says, "We all know that ArtPrize is about having a conversation about art, we just feel that most of the time that conversation revolves around large scale works of art. We want to flip that conversation and talk about how small works of art are just as viable as large scale works. They are just as challenging, time consuming, and complex as their large counterparts." PO (Art)Box will be viewable during business hours inside the Post Office lobby. After hours, the artwork can be viewed from a custom made outdoor mailbox bank that will be located just outside the Ledyard Post Office.

The Women’s City Club is a private club which resides in the historic Sweet House and offers memberships. The WCC transforms their space for ArtPrize. While the main floor retains it's historic look, but with the installation of AP art, the Auditorium is converted to a modern gallery with the addition of contemporary walls and lighting. In 2006, the Sweet House Foundation, a (501 c 3) non-profit, was established to preserve the history and architecture of the house. Martin Sweet, the original owner of the house, was a young entrepreneur when he came to Grand Rapids in 1846. He dreamed of a distinguished and spacious home for his family and in the early 1860’s built this home on the corner of Fulton and Lafayette. This Heritage Hill two-story Italianate Villa home survives as one of the remaining examples of this style of architecture in the latter part of the 19th century. (UN)DOCUMENTED / (IN)DOCUMENTADO This year, Rumsey Street returns as a community driven venue focused on honoring and documenting narratives that are crucial to the fabric of the neighborhood as it currently exists, working to maintain the cultural and historic elements of a community during major change. Artists show work in three buildings, slated for complete removal by the end of 2017 — an auto garage, a former church, and the church’s rectory — to present works that explore the complex narratives of pain, joy, and fear of a community in transition. The Cultura Collective returns to invite viewers to consider these perspectives, histories, and narratives and their varied forms of documentation in the midst of significant development and growth. UNDOCUMENTED / INDOCUMENTADO seeks to highlight the mostly untold stories of people directly affected by this growth, and to honor and maintain elements — both cultural and historic — of this community during major change.
