Lilly PLANT LIFE
2012 ArtPrize EntryLilly “Plant Life” - After observing Ford and the UAW uphold integrity during a pivotal time in the automotive industry, I was inspired to create this piece of art. Symbolic of a new beginning, “Plant Life” represent the resilience and unity that our entire work force has demonstrated. “Plant Life” was created by mounting scrap metal to repurposed pallets, then painted with enamels exclusive to the automotive industry. These post-industrial materials were salvaged during the demolition of the former Michigan truck plant. As a completed work of art, “Plant Life” primarily pays homage to the modern American autoworker. Lilly, a larger than life character reflects a diverse workforce. Capable and resourceful, she aims to inspire a new generation to take pride in their workplace and inspire people to imagine possibilities beyond the traditional.
