Bird Feeder
2012 ArtPrize Entry“Bird Feeder” is an intricately crafted metal eagle created entirely out of discarded silverware, and other miscellaneous household objects salvaged from scrap yards, junk piles, and collected from community members. As my medium, I intentionally chose household objects that the viewer will recognize to call attention to the many items that we accumulate, that eventually end up in the landfill. Through this piece of art, I hope to inspire people to become environmentally conscious consumers. The bald eagle is one environmental success story. I want people to realize that it’s never too late to begin making choices that will protect our resources and wildlife for future generations. Just as the Bald Eagle has made an impressive comeback from being endangered, many other environmental successes are possible if we begin making environmentally responsible choices.
