I am, without the formal documentation and accreditations to tell me so, a poet, philosopher, photographer, student, humorist, and teacher. I am an active participant in this game of life, and an observer and admirer of beauty. I am also a bit of a cynic. As regards my photography, my goal is to capture a moment, an observation, a thing of beauty I feel that I alone have witnessed, and beguile the pixels into forming as decent (though still paltry) a representation of my experience as possible. Sometimes I come close… One of my current passions is to share the interesting and wonderful structures formed within a block of ice as it freezes. While the science intrigues me, it’s the impression of catching a glimpse into an alien world that latches onto my imagination. I am entering Artprize 2017 with no pretentions nor explanations of what one should experience or interpret from my picture. If a patron only gives my work a passing glance, or a small pause as they move along to other works, then it’s just a nice picture. However, if one is compelled to stop and stare a while, if it evokes something deeper than simply what the eyes are taking in, then it is art, and I will have won. That to me would be a priceless prize. Oh of course I would love to get money too, but it is not what compels me to this endeavor.
