I have been interested in trying to portray the effect of looking down through the water of a moving stream at a fish. The Brown Trout is very colorful compared to the markings of the other fresh water fish of North America, so it became the subject of the painting. I was also interested in being able to use much freer brushwork in the parts of the painting where I tried to show the disruptions of the surface on the image beneath.
