Glass Forest

The ‘Glass Forest’ would be comprised of 30 freestanding glass and steel columns. The columns would range in height from 5 – 9 feet and would be supported by individual steel bases. These columns would be arranged to fill an area 8 x 20 feet. The idea is that viewers would be able to walk through the grouping as if strolling down a path, being surrounded and dwarfed by the color and light from the ‘glass forest’. Each column is comprised of 16 to 24 hand formed glass elements each approximately 5 inches in diameter. A ½ inch steel rod passes through hand formed solid glass elements along with spacers of carved black poly pipe to create the column. The assembled column fits into a 10 inches high support collar welded to a ½ inch steel base, which is 12 inches square. The overall tone of the forest would be bright and cheerful with a range of vivid color from the individual columns that shifts and moves as the viewer passes through.
