Susan Kopta

Kalamazoo, MI

I have lived in Michigan most of my life. My interest in art started in my childhood because my great aunt, grandmother and mother were all artists . I have worked with oils, charcoal, water colors, pen and ink and graphite. I have also expanded in fabric art making several church and religious themed banners for the Western Michigan Episcopal Cursillo. I love sketching on location, whether it be lighthouses on Lake Michigan, old barns in the country or trees and other plant life, I enjoy being outside with my sketch pad and pencils. My husband and I are very active in our church and I am constantly inspired by the bible for some of my works. The inspiration for this piece came to me shortly after participating in a Cursillo weekend. The original sketch was done on a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 copier paper. It has remained untiled until last month as I was working on this larger piece. I have two grown daughters, a stepson and a precious grand daughter who already is a promising artist.
