Susan Avishai is an artist (and occasional poet) based in Toronto, Canada. Her art practice focuses primarily on the creation of suspended sculptural pieces made from deconstructed old clothes. Born in Montreal, she has at times called Jerusalem, NY, Roanoke, Boston, and Ottawa home. Over her career she has worked in many media but came to fibre 7 years ago and has not looked back. Susan has mounted 14 solo shows and recently did a residency in Latvia, adding a piece to the permanent collection of the Mark Rothko Center there. She has exhibitions opening in 2 public galleries in the coming year. This past winter these deconstructed shirts were made into a 9' Christmas tree, one of the Twelve Trees event at the Gardiner Museum in Toronto. Last year her piece, "She was No Angel, Despite the Wings" was shown at the Monroe Community Church.
