President Gerald Ford Visits ArtPrize
2011 ArtPrize EntryAfter finishing in the Top 25 in 2010 with his super-realistic fiberglass resin "Grandfather Monk Luan," Sunti returns to ArtPrize this year with an exhibit that commemorates an American legend, beloved by the people of Grand Rapids - President Gerald R. Ford. Demonstrating his forte in the mediums of fiberglass resin and bronze, Sunti captures the personality and physical likeness of the 38th President of the United States, working from dozens of black and white photographs by David Hume Kennerly. While Mrs. Betty Ford gave Sunti permission to create this entry, she was unable to see the finished work. As a tribute to the "Fighting First Lady" and "1974 Woman of the Year," Sunti will be sculpting Mrs. Betty Ford in clay each day during the show.
