As a young man graduating from Saline high school in 2001, Steven had been awarded a grant from Kendall College of Art and Design. But instead he postponed his artistic dreams to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. In 2006 he was honorably discharged from active duty, and decided to move to Florida for massage therapy school. Graduating at the top of his class, he moved back to Michigan to be closer to his roots. Unfortunately that was in early 2008, right before the financial crisis here in the US (MI hit particularly hard). Making it very difficult to find full time employment, it encouraged him to go back to his creative side. At the time he had experience working with designing logos and tattoos, acrylic and watercolor painting, sculpting, wood carving and burning, as well as wire wrapping jewelry. When Steven was first introduced to henna by his girlfriend Amanda, he connected with it immediately and has been practicing ever since. His experience with cancer in his family and friends has impacted and motivated him greatly, making this project especially rewarding.
