Human Struggle for Freedom & Democracy
2011 ArtPrize EntryThis painting is based on a personal experience. My country Albania was part of the eastern bloc, and one of the most totalitarian countries. With the fall of Berlin wall, Albanian people had the best opportunity to through the beast. With the fall of communism the cold war came to an end. Twenty years later the Arab Spring brought other authoritarian systems to a dead end. Within human state of mind and spirit there is such a thirst for liberty, something so powerful that makes people stronger, hopeful, and for that they are willing to sacrifice even their own lives. History tells us that no matter how strong a dictation ship might be, it cannot hold for too long, and democracy rises again.
