Located at the very center of Grand Rapids, the corner of Division and Fulton, and once home to Davenport College and Junior Achievement, 2 East Fulton has been vacant since 1998. A previous owner with an ambitious renovation plan abandoned the project after gutting the building down to its concrete bare bones. But what remains is stunning. The School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor has teamed up with Site:Lab, a Grand Rapids non-profit that organizes art projects in vacant commercial and industrial buildings, to convert the structure into a temporary exhibition space for large-scale installation-based work.
