Tory Peterson and Zach Guy have been co-writing and producing music for over 10 years. Simien the Whale is the fruition of their indie-pop sensibilities and their fascination with people. "We are obsessed with people and characters," says Guy, "and we try to write songs about our perceptions of other people, not necessarily about ourselves or our own experiences." Winter 2011 saw the duo heading to the familiar confines of Mackinaw Harvest Studios in Grand Rapids, MI with long time friend and collaborator Michael Crittenden. The resulting ten song LP is the pair's most ambitious project yet, with worldwide release of the single "Always Something Easier" and an accompanying video.
