I was exploring the use of other mediums, and happened across a large box of playing cards from an area casino. Using those cards, I created a portrait of a friend that utilizes optical blending through the use of either distance, or video technology. Having shown them at one show for proof of concept, viewers close to the images thought them just abstract artwork made out of cards. The viewer is overwhelmed by the numbers, backs and face cards of the playing cards. Once proper distance, or a digital/phone camera is used the images become very clear as the cards shift into a value scale. The triptych will be a wall of cards that will invite the viewers to think beyond their initial reaction and find the answer that is actually there.

Venue & Connection Information

I am displaying a triptych of very large (60” x 80”) portraits. I need a space that is able to allow the viewers to see the triptych from both close up and from a distance. The pieces of the work will have corner saw-tooth hangers, so each will require two screws to hang properly. I am hoping for 6" to 1' of space between the images. I would also like to have space(s) to hang a description of how to view the pieces so that they make sense to the viewers. I have other pieces, and types of artwork, should you want to put up a body of my work that goes farther than just the entry. I am versed in photography, watercolors, prismacolors and acrylics. Thank you very much for your consideration.
