Sandra VanderMey was born in Grand Rapids Michigan in 1949. Sandra works predominantly in reactive metals, titanium and niobium and with other iridescent materials. Sandra began as a jeweler but later worked exclusively producing wall art. Her first wall piece was selected by the Smithsonian for the Air and Space Museum. After moving to Los Angeles she was hired by Paramount Studios to create wall sculptures for Star Trek: The Next Generation, Voyager and Enterprise as well as the Star Trek movie “Insurrection.” Sandra has won numerous international awards for her work and her art has been featured in many publications including The Smithsonian Magazine, Metalsmith magazine, Sculpture magazine and American Craft magazine. Sandra received her MFA with distinction from the University of Iowa Metalsmithing department, in 1990. .
