While studying ceramics at Thomas Jefferson College, Billy-Eddie Strickland encouraged us to dive in, experiment and follow where the clay leads us. I combine this curiosity with my love of the material and natural processes. I’m interested in the affects of weather, time and use on objects, how they add their influences to create a story recorded in the fabric of the object. Through my making process, choice of materials, heat and fire, I try to create pieces that seem to have been formed by the geological processes of laying down layers, folding, pressure, heat and time then worn down, eroded and aged.
