"LAYIN' LOW" is a funky little tune I composed a couple of months ago. It begins with a bass ostinato that sets the mood for the piece. I worked on the song all day but couldn't seem to come up with an appropriate title. I wanted something sly that would emphasize the bass riff. The next morning my wife, Megan, asked me what I had planned for the day. "Oh, I'll probably just shut myself in the studio and keep working on the new song," I answered. "Oh," she said, "Laying low, huh?" Without hesitation I said, "You just named the song. Thank you!" Later I asked my talented buddies to come over to our studio, Acoustic Arts, and record their delicious parts. Featured on this recording are: JON MONTGOMERY, tenor sax; EDDIE EICHER, drums; CHARLIE HOATS, bass; MIKE HYDE, guitar; and myself on piano. I hope you enjoy "Layin' Low."
