Robert A McArthur Artist Profile Saginaw, MI https://www.facebook.com/RobertMcarthurArtist http://www.artprize.org/robert-mcarthur My art career as a painter began in 2017 after a near death experience in the hospital for a month and two months recovery. I could no longer re-purpose furniture as my art and craft, so I purchased an acrylic art set and began painting. I had no idea that this would be my true passion for I have never painted art before. Now, I have so many stories and images in my mind, that I can't seem to paint fast enough. My art is defined by the entire composition and the emotional feeling and meaning it gives me. Each piece I have painted to date, has a full story behind its creation. Even though I am still employed, I usually paint four hours a night, and could paint more if I had the time. Each piece usually takes me a month to create. My compositions are in acrylic with the main story centerpiece in 3D. "Swimming through the Stars" was my first painting using the Universe as the backdrop and major part of the story. This story features a Whale swimming through the stars, with the whale in 3D, and depending on the light, the whale can completely vanish or shine brightly. The composition theme was the state of our oceans, with the larger animals becoming endangered. The whale is swimming back home into the Universe. Sometimes the paintings are complex & sometimes not so much. My painting of the Cello Player on a slab of walnut is on the simpler side, fun & whimsical called: "The Color of Cello". The other paintings I have uploaded for reference: "Dreaming of San Antonio": the skyline of San Antonio with Universe as a backdrop (home of my youngest son). "Seeding the Stars": represents the creation of a new Zodiac. "Walking into Eternity" represents the final walk of the elephants as they are now endangered. "Sea Angel" represents the connection between the sea, earth, air & sky in the image of a mermaid/angel/musician. My only portrait work to date, has been for some friends of mine, a married couple, who dress up for all the 'Star Wars' conventions (and their dog), so I painted a Star Wars theme portrait as a gift. My niece just had a baby boy, so I painted a cartoon flying scene (family members are pilots) for his birth and painted a flying portrait of my nephew and his new bride (also pilots). I have also created abstract images as I continue to learn. I am also a working professional at the VA Hospital in Saginaw, MI.
