Time-based Short List

"Drawing Apparatus" recontextualizes domestic materials into an automaton capable of creating a multitude of designs relative to the time-based parameters of the vinyl records. Through its analog construction, it is capable of creating drawings that reference digital technologies. Hidden within the elegance of the mechanical lines resides an analog warmth, the glitch that occurs when it begins and ends each single-line drawing. Due to its vast potential, "Drawing Apparatus" is an ongoing piece that continues to grow in its technical and conceptual outcomes the more time that I spend with it. "Drawing Apparatus" situates itself across disciplines and challenges our notions of drawing, printmaking, and performance. The hypnotic quality of its performance provides space for the audience to ponder what they are viewing beyond its material construction.
