Looking back I can pinpoint the time in my life that my vision changed and I started on this path. I was 10 years old sitting in the backseat of my parents car traveling from Detroit to the Upper Peninsula begging them to pull off the highway into Grayling so I could see the Paul Bunyan sculpture. I remember standing there looking through the viewfinder of my dad's 35mm camera and having the realization hit me that Paul Bunyan was constructed out of carhoods. Carhoods!!! My life was forever changed. -------------------------- Hello, my name is Ritch Branstrom. I have an affliction: I see potential in things. This results in saving/rescuing/collecting stuff. The extent to which I collect some may call hoarding. I have a studio/workshop/warehouse in Rapid River in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (wedged between Jack's Restaurant and the Rapid River Pub) repurposed from an old Red Owl grocery store. This is where I spend most of my time living the dream of being a Found Object Sculptor. Although, if you talked to the people on the sidewalk looking in the windows at the weirdly curious creations, they'll probably say "no one is ever here". I would argue that, to me, it feels like I live here. The sign on the door says: by appt, chance, or fate. If I'm not in the studio working, I'm probably at home working, or I may be at church working (I picked up a rescue church last year). There is no separation between work and life. What I do is my life, and my life is in what I do.
