Transient Beauty
2012 ArtPrize EntryMy inspiration for this piece came last year while exploring ArtPrize. I was walking around, along with thousands of other people, yet when we came across a homeless person, it was as if they didn't exist! I want people to realize that regardless of the circumstances that brought this person to this point in their life, they are still a person! After collecting donations for blessing bags, we headed downtown with a camera to get some reference photos. I explained what I had in mind, took the photos, and was able to give them a little something in gratitude. I have been painting ever since! My piece consists of 52 watercolor portraits of the Homeless downtown Grand Rapids. Each one is monochromatic, and is mounted separately. They come off of the wall at different depths, creating more visual interest.
