Last Station

My photo collage titled “Last Station” came to fruition because of a near-death experience I had in Death Valley, California. The temperature was 125° when I took this background image of Badwater, CA. the lowest point in United States, and one of the harshest places on earth. I photographed the image of a subway station entrance in a city called Goldsmith in NV. There were two of them sitting in a dirt parking lot by themselves with no reason for being in a ghost town. I had always wanted to use the image of the subway entrance in one of my photo collages as I found it so ironic that they led to nowhere. I added the crows to this image because of their symbolism in many cultures and religions as being associated with life, death and as messengers to the gods. Printing this image on aluminum with the harsh landscape of Death Valley, the station entrance to nowhere and the symbolism of the crows help add to the surreal feeling I was trying to achieve and come across to the viewers.
