Even though I painted for years before picking up my art degree at George Mason University in 1985, my life as an artist didn’t really begin until that time. The study of art so fascinated me that it literally changed my life. I was hired immediately following graduation and taught art for Adult Education in Fairfax County, Fairfax, Virginia for 23 years. Those were glorious years; I loved teaching and the students. I decided in 2009 to retire and pursue my own art full time. I paint for two sessions each day and hang a solo show biannually at Green Spring Gardens Park, a historical site in Alexandria, VA. The event keeps me very productive because it takes about 30 pieces to fill the gallery. I will hang my fifth solo show there this summer. I would say my love of beauty and attention to detail are traits that consume me—apparent in my home, my garden, and my canvasses. I’ve found that an artist’s journey is both difficult and challenging, but very rewarding.
