My work is about the distance created by compounded loss and the opacity of language. As an Iranian woman living in the U.S. for the past six years, the concept of nostalgia has become very bold for me. I’m looking at the past lives of people in my country, and trying to understand and reconnect with the person I am today. By adding mundane household objects to vintage photos from Iran and rephotographing them, I hope to juxtapose sense of alienation and contradiction into each piece.
