In April 2014 I made a trip to Colorado to attend a memorial service. I visited a friend while there and we walked in her garden for a while. I surprised myself when I asked her if I could make a quilt that looked like her garden! I had no idea how to make a quilt, especially a landscape quilt! I came home to Texas and started finding fabrics that would work in the quilt that I had most definitely decided I was NOT going to make. Four months later I was hooked on designing textile art. Last year a friend from the art world told me about ArtPrize and I knew right away I was going to enter the show if possible. The idea for Whimsical Reef developed over time and keeps on evolving.
