2012 ArtPrize Entry
Add to Collection

This site-variable installation is made up of a series of casts of the artist’s mouth. Each mouth is a beeswax cast, equally spaced apart at two inches on center along a full length of wall. The casts are installed to correspond with the height of the artist's mouth. The serial quality of the installation, the rhythmic undulation and repetition allows the casts to read as a linear element, reminiscent of traditional architectural decorations, such as crown, picture, and chair-rail mouldings. At the same time, the sweet smell of the casts and their proximity to the viewer's own nose and mouth, invites closer investigation upon which subtle variations of color and shape are revealed.
