Why He Dances

This year's Art prize entry will be a continuation of my efforts to bring public awareness to the suffering of this country's first people, the Native Americans. Last year I entered " I.N.R.I. In need of Rescue Immediately", a statement painting reflecting the high teen suicide rate on the Pine Ridge Reservation in SD. The painting went on to receive First Place in the 34th Annual FUMC Celebration of the Arts and has been on exhibit at Aquinas college and Meijer's Gardens. This year I will be painting the image of a magnificent dancer from a local Pow Wow. I chose an image from Michigan to call attention to the fact that the native needs are great here at home. I gift my images to the Gathering Thunder Foundation where I am a volunteer. GTF is a 501(c) (3) non profit organization working to serve the needs of disadvantaged indigenous people of North America, 100% of all donations go directly to charitable programs.
