"Music for Elephants" examines the relationship between humans and elephantine megafauna in the last 13,000 years. Interdisciplinary artist, environmental activist, and naturalist Jenny Kendler will exhibit her work. Kendler's new piece, "Music for Elephants," presents data on the current acceleration of elephant extinction, in part because of the ivory trade. According to Kendler, "Elephants and humans have much in common. We are both highly social animals defined by lifelong family bonds. We share our reliance on intricate forms of communication within our groups. We are both species who are ecosystem engineers—yet humans are engineering a planet where there may no longer be room for elephants." The exhibition asks, what might we lose if another species of elephant becomes extinct again?
