A professional Taxidermist by trade, Mike has always had a love for the beauty of nature. His profession started as a science project in the 7th grade and as he became a teenager, he started preserving the beauty of animals for his own knowledge and experience. Part of taxidermy includes the sculpting of manikins to use in the preservation of these animals. During his 40 year career as a taxidermist, Mike has developed his own sculpting style to create life-like works of nature. Mike's other art endeavors include North Coast Gallery Classics, which is a nautical Décor Company he runs along with his wife Peggy since 1991. www.gallery-classics.com. Check out our site. You will see reproductions of ships figureheads that have been sold all over the world. We've made them for home décor, restaurant and movie props. The city of Salem, Massachusetts commissioned Gallery-Classics to supply figureheads for their Beautification project called Ladiesofsalem.com. Mike has been a full time Taxidermist since 1978, specializing in Fish and Deer. Located in Port Clinton, Ohio, on Lake Erie, Mike has mounted hundreds of walleyes and other fish each year. Recently Mike has been honored by being chosen to make reproductions of Invasive species threatening our Great Lakes. Mike has made Asian Carp models for the EPA, Illinois Division of Natural Resources, all of the state Sea Grant programs for Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State and North Western University. The International Joint Commission of Canada have Asian Carp models as well for public awareness. The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Canada commissioned Mike to make an exhibit of Asian Carp for their Invasive Species exhibit.
