Hole 2 Sometimes You Are Just So Broken
2012 ArtPrize EntryThis is another installment of my "Beat" paintings. This is a painting about being "Beat", being broke and not being in control. The main figure's life is transformed beyond repair because he has found himself knee deep in this hole. The secondary figure is the chorus (in the tradition of Shakespeare). Words will be added in the style of contemporary graphic novels. This will be similar to, but not quite, a word bubble. The under-painting is about 70% finished. The painting is half finished. Color will be added soon. There is additional work to be done on the ground plane, the main figure and the background figure. I will post pictures here as the process moves along. They are also available on my blog (http://matthewkarlschenk.blogspot.com/). My work is not difficult to understand. My current work wears two faces. I paint sensitive interpretations of the human figure and I paint contemporary narratives. The narratives are intended to be funny tragic or both.
