Box Elder Vase

Matthew Hutchinson's avatar Matthew Hutchinson

This woodturned sculptural vase is made from a beautiful piece of reclaimed box elder wood. Taken from the main crotch of the tree, the high figuring and naturally occurring red streaking set off the natural void created where the two limbs failed to grow into one another. Additionally, as part of the design it will be allowed to warp and deform, accentuating it's natural and organic presence. Once it is dry, alacquer finish will really pop the grain revealing intense yellow colors, red streaking, and the chattoyance (light reflectivity) of the wood.
