Famed Portals
The greatest painters have possessed the ability to transport the viewers of their work to a new environment of the artist’s choosing. I like to think of the scenes that painters create as whole worlds that exist beyond our own and the canvas is only a portal, showing us just a glimpse of that painted world. Here, I’ve quoted two of my favorite works in an attempt to broaden our view of the worlds they portray. In addition, I wanted to allow you, the viewer, a more in-depth gaze at what it might look like if the subjects of these modern artworks could see us through their side of the portal.
