Walking Shadows

"Walking Shadows" is an installation consisting of 9 mobiles hanging from the ceiling. Each of the mobiles is representative of loss. Some are the loss of people such as friends and family members who have passed away, and some of the mobiles are representative of "pieces" of people who are lost (to the artist). The significant parts of this installation are: 1), the art pieces themselves and 2) ,the shadows they create on the walls. These represent the shadows that remain after we lose someone. The pieces and the shadows are of equal importance. Some of the pieces, including "Three Sisters", and "Moving On" were created this winter in Tucson, Arizona. Various organic materials such as cactus skeletons, gourds, and palm tree trimmings were used. All the pieces are painted in high gloss, metallic gold, and reflect the light as well as create moving shadows. The pieces move freely as they are hung with fishing line and swivels. Two videos show the moving shadows.
