Big Giant Snake
2012 ArtPrize EntryBig Giant Snake is a sculpture approximately 85' long, in the form of a giant snake. Materials used include reed, waxed fiber and Krylon. It may be exhibited either suspended, or placed along the ground in an outdoor environment. It was built in sections, which are knotted together when it is installed. Many years ago I began dreaming of giant snakes. I saw them in my dreams as tremendous paintings and as large sculptures, made of many materials. This is my first attempt to capture the giant snake of my dreams. It is an exercise in obsession and fixation on what seems like an impossible undertaking. I was compelled to bring to life the biggest snake I could manage. Snakes are of great importance in world mythology. They are found in creation stories in many cultures. They are guardians, guides, creators, destroyers, and bearers of wisdom and secret knowledge.
