Personal Medicine
2012 ArtPrize EntryIn the book, Empire of the Summer Moon, the author S. C. Gwynne talks of the Comanche tribe as having a name for a warrior’s personal vibe. The word for this is “puha,” which translates as “medicine.” Getting to know my own vibe as an artist, daughter, wife and mother has been empowering. My painting offers a warm and nuanced reflection of the transformation and inner peace that happens when you grow more comfortable with who you are.
