My journey into welding and working with metal started in January 2013 when my sister gave me a welder. I had always worked with wood but found with metal I have no limits on what I can create. The only welding class I took was back in high school many years ago . Many of my first pieces I made for our gardens were very rough but I have learned a lot in a few years. They were what we called Garden Critters, frogs, crabs, and dragonflies, which could be put in flower gardens. The frogs and crabs were made from old horseshoes. I still make those today as they bring smiles to so many people. Finding old metal and farm equipment to use is exciting. The old rusty metal has so much character you can work into the piece. You cannot duplicate the wonderful pitting that presents itself in decades old steel. It brought me so much enjoyment I soon grew out of the first out-building and took over second larger one. I started expanding my artistic creativity and making more and more complex pieces. The proudest moment I had was when I was first called “the artist” instead of “the welder”. I have found that being around creative artists inspires me and has pushed me to grow and expand. Now I see potential in the strangest little things and love working all day on something new and wild. Many times I have an idea in my head but by the time I am finished it is something completely different and beautiful.
