Marilyn Rutkowski

Canadian Lakes, MI, United States

I was introduced to clay in high school and fell in love with it. After high school I took some classes in college. I got married had children and got away from my passion. I got back to it in 2005. I made a series of sculptures called Crumpwoods Creatures. I entered them in a show and won the award for the best 3-D. I did a series of more serious pieces for the next 2 years and both years I won the awards for best 3-D, and one of those years I also received the award for viewer's choice. This piece took me longer to do then my past pieces because this piece is the largest piece I've ever done. I made this piece to make a statement about the seriousness of toxic waste polluting our lakes and rivers. These are obviously made in a fantastical way to pull the viewers into the experience. I hope this piece makes you think about what could happen to our wildlife if not protected from these polluters.
