Marcia Olinger earned a Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University, a Master of Science from Grand Valley State University and numerous Art and Photography awards, including a First Place Photography Award from the National Wildlife Federation. Marcia is the Managing Member of Nature in My Backyard LLC. 2017 was Marcia’s 5th ArtPrize entry created specifically for the accepting venue. In 2010, Oppenheimer's unique display window was home to "The Sunday Funnies in My Backyard", a custom hardwood frame proportionally designed to fit their window displaying 12 original Nature Photos with humorous cartoon captions or “Sunday Funnies”. In 2013, the unusual grouping of windows at GRPD provided space for a unique 8-foot laminated hardwood tree displaying 27 original nature photographs in “Nature at My Backdoor”. The new lobby at Spectrum Health Meijer Heart Center, inspired "Nature's Wings", a 2015 tribute to the American Wild Turkey. The presentation consists of a large custom shadow box displaying a beautiful set of wings constructed entirely of real turkey feathers she collected. Accompanying this display was an assortment of wild turkey photos in their natural habitat. In 2016, Marcia sculpted "The Frog Chair", a 6-foot 400-pound original child's chair in the shape of a frog complete with a velvet cushion and 12 original Frog photographs designed especially for the Holiday Inn's delightful front entry way! Last year 2017's 7-foot "Butterfly" was created for the B.O.B.’s dramatic 8-foot wide 4-story open stairwell. “Butterfly”, made from hand dyed China Silk and Baltic Birch, was designed to be viewed from the front or the back, allowing light filtering through colorful silk panels. As an artist, the design & creation is her joy whatever the medium.
