Lynne grew up in Singapore and was educated at the University of Oxford, England, receiving a doctorate in experimental psychology. While teaching psychology, she discovered clay and it was love at first touch. She is now living her dream as a potter and clay artist. Lynne has exhibited her functional pottery and clay sculptures regionally in juried competitions and group and two-person shows, and her work is regularly available at galleries and art festivals. Her studio is in the Box Factory for the Arts in St Joseph, Michigan. "My life is put on hold when I play with clay. It is the one activity that engages me so totally my thoughts are simply unable to wander. I dream a shape and I have to make it. Most of my pieces are thrown on the potters wheel, but I often alter them to create more fluid and organic forms. I aim for my functional ware to also be sculptural - to be enjoyed when not in use. Beauty, for me, lies in undecorated simplicity." - Lynne Tan
