Fragments of Time

2013 ArtPrize Entry
Add to Collection

Fragments of Time are bronze shards from my Inner Core Samples series. With my ongoing interest in capturing time in sculpture, the sculptures show the layers of the earth with varied textures, like a core sample drilled and brought up to the surface. Through this compressed version of time, the current landscape is connected to the vast history of earth below the surface—showing how this is one moment amidst eons of history—before it, too, vanishes or evolves into another layer. One texture either eclipses or shifts into another, such as circles becoming dots, which evolve into dotted lines. By reflecting the past, this series is about thinking about what choices each of us are going to make and how we will impact the future.
