Queen & Consort from the Lunar Asparagus People Series
2012 ArtPrize EntryQueen & Consort is from the Lunar Asparagus People series. The Consort is slightly taller than the Queen and is meant to protect her like a bodyguard, which is why they are positioned so close together. And the negative space between the Queen and Consort is like a third sculpture - a conversation between them. Demetrios often begins a series of Lunar Asaparagus People by making small wood maquettes and then fabricating in bronze in her studio. The Lunar Asparagus series and the Titan series, ranging in scale from 12 inches to 10 feet tall in both indoor and outdoor settings, are often made in pairs or trios.
