"Under Construction" - LiveStatue is building on the future: Presenting a scene that is common in West Michigan; things are constantly changing, rebuilding, improving. We see new buildings, new festivals, and new people. An artist creates ideas and brings them into being through his art. The art inspires people and creates impressions of the artist. What if the artist is the art? Robert Shangle, the artist, is joined by other figures in his living sculpture display. The future is in our children, and Robert is joined this year by his son, statue apprentice Jasper Shangle, a Calvin College student. Robert has also been busy creating A.R.T., an Artistic Replica of TrueLife, a real statue, who may appear more lifelike than a LiveStatue. They create the art, just as planners and architects design new construction, and construction workers bring their ideas to life as they build.
