Precipice of Change

“Precipice of Change” depicts the tipping point of transition, from which sets in motion a cycle of transformation. Literally, this piece marks a transition in method. Usually, I source my own memory. However for this, I used a photographic reference, hyper enlarged beyond recognition. Blown out pixels provided a source framework without impeding an intuitive method. With dynamic mark making, I sought to capture that jolt of raw power in the land, an energy moment from directly experiencing nature. Alone, on a brisk October morning, we hiked to the falls. We made way down to the viewing platform, and leaned out, frozen, as if the slightest twitch would hurl us over without recourse. Over the brink, water rushed so fast and far, we couldn’t perceive its distance. The roaring sound, so immense, drowned out any thoughts in our mind. My hope is “Precipice of Change” resonates with that sense of awe and anticipation as we each approach inevitable transformations in our lives.
