Remembrance
This is a mixed media piece based on the roadside crosses that are often unnoticed, but beautiful and touching memorials to the tragedy of lives loved and lost too soon. It not only honors the victims and their loved ones, but also celebrates the beauty and individuality of these symbols of devotion. Remembrance consists of nine 12" square canvases that combine photography, photo transfer, painted rice papers, acrylic, and leaves and grasses collected from some of the sites. They are hung one after the other as you might view them while driving by. The stripes along the bottom and sides progress through the spectrum of colors that represent a range of emotions. Whichever end you begin your journey, it concludes with a tone of yellow to symbolize hope, peace and healing. The rice papers are meant to create environments that highlight the beauty of each memorial, yet flow like the land from one to the next. Each canvas holds one word:"In memory of lives loved and lost too soon"
