Warden of Sorrow / Homage to Hieronymus Bosch
2011 ArtPrize EntryI was inspired by the work of Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch, b. c.1450, d. August 1516. I wanted to create a lasting three dimensional work in steel and stone which dealt with the subject of morality and consequences as Bosch did. I created a sculpture based on one of the figures in Bosch's painting The Temptation of Saint Anthony c.1500. The figure I was drawn to in this hectic painting appears to be indifferent to the surrounding madness. I have made this figure the centerpiece and keeper of the unfortunate souls who reside in the tower of this not so happy bird bath.
