My name is Leah Rawdon and I am a local West Michigan artist from the Muskegon lakeshore. Currently, I live in Atlanta with my girlfriend, Gracie, and our four pets. And yes, it is very difficult to draw with four animals in an apartment, especially when two of them are cats and my work surface always seems to be the most comfortable place to sprawl out. A majority of my work is done in black and white with ballpoint pens, but I also enjoy working with illustration pens, colored pencils, handmade linocuts, and whatever else I can’t talk myself out of buying at art supply stores. Outside of my art, you can find me reading, hiking, fishing, hunting, cooking, being a foodie, and spending time with family. The first and only time I attended ArtPrize was during its first year in 2009. Between attending college in Detroit, living in Baltimore for two years, and then finally ending up in Georgia, I haven’t had the opportunity to go back. This year, I think the best way for me to attend ArtPrize again is by entering one of my own pieces, Chief John Matowatakpe “Charging Bear” Grass. ArtPrize combines so many of my favorite adventures - exploring a city, supporting local businesses, wandering through art museums, chowing down at food trucks, sampling craft beer and wine - and I look forward to sharing this experience with my girlfriend, my family, and you all. I also want to thank my family members and friends for supporting my art, whether it be by buying prints, displaying my work in their homes, or sharing with others, I truly appreciate ALL of you and your efforts.
