"Ceremony of the Oracle"

2011 ArtPrize Entry
Add to Collection

The painting I am creating is a triptych on canvas, that features a sacred ceremony, where an oracle is channeling the spirit of a recently departed King. The main theme of the painting explores the impact of a lifetime, and our human need to understand life's great mysteries and the afterlife. The subtext also includes ideas about good vs. evil, the relationships we form, our understanding of spiritual beliefs, mortality, etc. I am attempting to use imagery and symbols of various cultural and religious ideology to show the importance of our spiritual beliefs and how they impact every major event in our lives. To date, I have painted over 1500 hours, and will exceed 3000 hours by the time I'm finished. This process has been the most challenging, and most character defining of my life. I am putting everything I have into this painting, and have pushed myself creatively, mentally, physically and emotionally, to my limits, with the end goal of creating a memorable painting.
