Pop and cultural icon as well as American sex symbol, this actress, singer, and model is recognized around the world. Using post-consumer items rather than paint, this portrait of Marilyn Monroe was particularly challenging as the colors needed for Marilyn’s fair hair and skin were difficult to find. I have chosen not to paint the found and donated items, but to let the color of the objects remain unaltered so they are more easily recognized by the viewer. Each Assemblage I create is a piece of our history- the history of what we are consuming and throwing away today. And what we throw away says a lot about who we are, but what we choose to cherish and protect says even more in the end.
